In life, we are constantly going places, both physically and
metaphysically. Each person’s journey begins right from the moment
they are born till they breathe their last breath. Life is a never-ending ride
on which we live multiple stories, our own and others’ too, and as we live
on, we keep adding new lessons.
I believe that this journey of ours, each a unique one, is what makes us
“us”. So today, I want to share a piece of my journey with you.
How It Started…
My professional journey started as an automotive journalist, working with
the ZigWheels (under Times of India Group). I reviewed cars for the
portal as well as for the pink paper, which was mostly a thrilling
experience but, if I was being honest with myself, my heart was not in it.
Like any 23-year-old in the initial stage of her career, I hadn’t made up
my mind about what it is exactly that I wanted to do. Little did I know that
it would soon start falling in place.
Year 2008 marked the end of my media journey when I joined the MNC
Ernst & Young amidst wedding bells—yet another crucial journey was to
begin. Luckily, I got married to a man who not only became my best
friend but also my biggest cheerleader.
In 2012, we were blessed with a daughter. That’s when I decided to go
on a sabbatical, ensuring that I devote time and effort to our little lilliput,
who bloomed in to the brightest flower!
During my time off work, something clicked. Nurturing and nourishing my
little one made me realise my yen for nature. I knew it in my heart that I
am meant to add greens (and a whole lot of colours) to the world. I was
a woman obsessed: livening up balconies with plants and striving to
keep them alive and blooming.
And that is how, in the October of 2017, We Decor8 was born.
…How It’s Going
My business idea is to have something I could carry over in to my
retirement age and be proud of it. I always wanted to do something
related to nature and for humankind which also promoted wellbeing and
good health.
Fast-forward a few years, business had started thriving but I wanted to
challenge myself once more to keep growing (another lesson learnt from
Mother Nature). So, I tested waters with retail and forayed into the online
space.
This was not easy as it meant stepping out of my comfort zone and in to
a virtual world where the competition grows by the minute. But the
entrepreneur in me took this challenge head-on; I ensured I am
preparing my arsenal with the skills I would require.
On the work front, WeDecor8 expanded to include indoor plantscaping,
vertical gardens, workplace greening, designer planters, preserved moss
walls, and terrace decor for corporates and commercial clients. And
before I knew it, I was looking at work that I held dear to my heart, filling
me with joy each day.
Now I am a proud mother of an 8-year-old who can recite plant names
like the English alphabet! Somewhere along my journey, she found the
nature enthusiast in her. Her knowledge of plant care is commendable
and she has become a true inspiration to me!
The female entrepreneur in me wishes to see my home city, Delhi, as a
greener place. I plan on dotting the city with plants, which is much
required given the all-concrete environment. I have also deep-dived into
Biophilia and sustainable living, which are the way forward now.
Looking back, I can now say that my journey, confusions and challenges
included, has made me who I am. It has given me a true vision for We
Decor8, where our purpose is beyond merely creating influx. We believe
in the good of nature and promote living in harmony with it, learning from
it, and growing with it.
